mrs o on vogue

This is Michelle Obama’s second cover on Vogue Magazine and she looked stunning as usual, hard to believe that she is 49 years old. She spoke about raising teenagers and how President Obama is as a father.

On their job as parents:

“Our job is, first and foremost, to make sure our family is whole. You know, we have small kids; they’re growing every day. But I think we were both pretty straightforward when we said, `Our No. 1 priority is making sure that our family is whole. The stresses and the pressures of this job are so real that when you get a minute, you want to give that extra energy to your 14- and 11-year-old.”

On their daughters growing up:

President Obama joked in the Vogue interview that he and the first lady might start hitting the town, now that their daughters are older and have less time for them.

“As I joked at a press conference, now that they want less time with us, who knows? Maybe you’ll see us out in the clubs,” Obama said.

Michelle On Obama as a father:

“He’s doing it while still dealing with Syria and health care. He’s as up on every friend, every party, every relationship,” the first lady said. “And if you’re out to dinner every night, you miss those moments where you can check-in and just figure them out when they’re ready to share with you.”

Michelle on women’s fashion:

“I always say that women should wear whatever makes them feel good about themselves. That’s what I always try to do. I also believe that if you’re comfortable in your clothes it’s easy to connect with people and make them feel comfortable as well. In every interaction that I have with people, I always want to show them my most authentic self.”How living in The White House has affected their style choices:

“There is one thing that changed,” said The President”What’s that?” asked Michelle Obama.

“Which is, I used to only have, like, two suits,” he said.”Thank god,” the First Lady said. “Let me tell you: This is the man who still boasts about, ‘This khaki pair of pants I’ve had since I was 20.’ And I’m like, ‘You don’t want to brag about that.'”The President added: ‘Michelle’s like Beyoncé in that song, “Let me upgrade ya!” She upgraded me.”

And the girls have their say too:“The girls and I are always rooting when he wears, like, a stripe. They’re like, ‘Dad! Oh, you look so handsome. Oh, stripes! You go!’” said Michelle Obama.

beyonce bowl

Beyonce’s anxiously awaited Superbowl halftime performance took place this morning, I PVR’d the entire Superbowl, all 4 hours of it only to watch 10 min of Beyonce, I am a true Stan. Beyonce was amazing, dressed in all black leather, she started off by performing Crazy In Love, End of Time and Baby Boy. Then Kelly & Michelle jumped onto the stage and performed Bootylicious and Independent Women before Beyonce asked them to help her sing Single Ladies, it was perfection. She ended off her set with Halo & thank everyone for the opportunity to perform. The stage was in the shape of her face, you have to see it to get what I mean. Below are pics from the BeyonceBowl performance, her affectionate hug with her husband after her performance & als the congratulatory tweet from the FLOTUS Michelle Obama, enjoy!

Oh Alicia Keys sang the national anthem at the beginning of the game and Jennifer Hudson also sang with Sandy Hook Elementary School.

becoming a confident, praying wife..

Just sharing some of my AHA moments to becoming a confident, praying wife.

  • Last year about 5 months into being part of a married couple and still acclimatising to calling my husband “husband”, I read a status on one of the social media networks that someone had posted and it simply read “Wives, pray for your husbands.” This statement hit home with me because it was something that I had not thought of, yes I pray for my marriage, his wellbeing, career, family etc. but had not yet considered that as the leader of my home I have to pray for my husband to be a capable one always, a leader that always considers his wife and children first, that communicates effectively and that makes smart decisions. So ladies, if like me this message had not reached you yet, then please pray for your husband to be a capable leader despite the many challenges that he may face.
  • Our church was fasting last week as well as this week and there are church services every day in the evenings. I was waiting for my husband outside the church last night and chatting to one of the guys that was helping us find parking. He said one thing to me that stuck and that is to treat your husband well because God won’t ask you whether your husband was good to you, he will ask you if you were a noble wife or not? Proverbs 31:10-31 – A wife of noble character.
  • I went to a Women’s Conference last year and the main speaker spoke about being a confident woman. She relayed a story about Michelle & Barrack Obama, they were in a very fancy restaurant having dinner. Michelle then told Barrack that she had dated the man who owned the restaurant before she met Barrack, he responded by asking her “So if you had married this guy, you would be the proud co-owner of this restaurant today?” Michelle then said “No, he would be the President!” Don’t be the anchor that holds your husband, be the springboard for him to realise his dreams and he for yours.

to michelle love bey

A few weeks back Beyonce wrote a letter to Michelle Obama and posted it on her tumblr site. It’s a beautiful letter acknowledging Michelle for the wonderful work that she does and for the person she is and she’s also happy that Blue Ivy has people like her to look up to. It was such a sweet gesture from Beyonce and Michelle Obama thanked Beyonce on twitter for kind words. This is a true and admirable example of women building each other up which we definitely need more of in order to do away with the pull-her-down-syndrome.

PS – I love how Bey refers to Michelle Obama just by her first name, I want swagger like that! 😉

#30DC day eleven : favourite quote

My favourite quotes change all the time because it is so hard to pin it down to one, there are just so many great ones. My current favourite is one by Barack Obama which is what he said to Michelle Obama

“If we get married, I cannot promise you a lot of money but I can promise you an interesting life”

I have a few more faves that I would love to share:

“She doesn’t use her love to keep him weak, she uses her love to keep him strong” – Dream Hampton

“The happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything but they make the most of everything”

“Love is RARE, life is STRANGE, nothing LASTS and people CHANGE”
