the facehunter

Marie Claire magazine in association with SA Fashion Week invited me to an exclusive book launch called the FaceHunter by Yvan Rodic. The event was at the warm and glad book store which is also a coffee shop. The event was very intimate with the Marie Claire team, quite a few fashion bloggers and designers.

Yvan Rodic is a Swiss street style photographer, who has travelled the world and captured street style at fashion and cultural events. He has launched his second book titled A year in the life of the FaceHunter and it features an array of beautiful, unassuming street style images from all over the world. You can order his book from his website and whilst you’re there, you can also check out his street style photography.

Which magazine cover is Kerry Washington not on right now? She is currently on the cover of the October issues of Marie Claire magazine South Africa and Elle magazine South Africa. This girl is blazing a hot trail right now with the success of her hit TV Drama, Scandal, which in South Africa we know as The Fixer. I read the article on the Marie Claire magazine and I love how Kerry is embracing her success because of how rare it is for an African-American actress to be playing a lead role in a riveting TV drama. She is choosing to focus more on women’s issues versus race. Once again she barely mentions her marriage still choosing to keep her private life private.

This week Kerry was named PEOPLE magazine’s best dressed woman for 2013. It’s safe to say that Kerry Washington has an amazing year! Below are a few of her looks:

nicki minaj covers marie claire

Nicki Minaj covers Marie Claire magazine and talks about her Barbs, Idols, babies and a possible acting career.

People got to know Nicki on Idol

The perception that people had of me completely changed because there are no cue cards, there’s no script, it wasn’t me performing a song. It was, ‘Let’s see your real personality.’My core is a genuine human being who roots for other people. I didn’t want to blow smoke up their ass. I wanted every contestant to leave with something that they could remember.

The Barbz – her loyal fans, she’s so grateful for them…

I tell my Barbz, ‘You guys know the difference between rap, play, and dead-ass serious.’ They know the difference between those three Nickis. And they’re so smart. They teach me every day. They’re the meat and potatoes of who Nicki Minaj is.

As she continues to build her empire, a possible film career might very well be in the future.

One day, when I start getting a couple gray hairs, maybe it will all be only acting. I just never know. I’ve kind of become the poster child for doing the things that no one expects.

She gives relationship advice:

Don’t chase any man. Put your school first. Men love independent women. You don’t have to be a b*tch, but there’s nothing wrong with it at times. And: Men are kids at heart. They want to be nourished and pet like a dog.

Nicki plans on becoming a mother someday:

I was praying every day, ‘You know what, Lord? I want to be a mom one day, and I want to start becoming the woman who I want to parent my child.’ I wanted all of the feelings of entitlement to leave me, because some people have this life for a year or five or 10 – and a lot of them lose it. I didn’t want to become a person who wasn’t enjoying the moment.

scarlett johansson covers marie claire sa

Scarlett Johansson is on the cover of this month’s Marie Claire magazine, below are some pics from her photo shoot. One of the interesting features in the magazine that tugged at my heart was about women from Rwanda talking about loving children that were conceived as a result of rape, some really sad responses.
