rihanna covers glamour mag

My favourite good girl gone bad is on the cover of Glamour Magazine in the US, actually I don’t know if I really like Rihanna right now after she her mean-spirited twar with Teyana Taylor two weeks ago, simply because she started it. Anyways Rihanna poses on the cover in her jerry curl and she talks about her fashion inspiration and why Nicole Richie pisses her off.

On her new show Styled to Rock:

“I felt like there were all these talented people in New York who had a very keen eye for style and design, but I couldn’t find them [to work with]. I get excited by discovering new designers. I’m obsessed with being first with everything in fashion.”

On her fashion inspo:

My love for fashion—let me say, my admiration for fashion—started with my mom. I used to watch her get dressed. She was around my age right now, and she was so fly. So fly. I remember not even knowing how to do that because I was such a tomboy.”

On who’s on her best dressed list:

“Oh my God, are you kidding me? Nicole Richie. She just pisses me off, she’s so good. But you know who is the best who ever did it? Princess Diana. She was like—she killed it. Every look was right. She was gangsta with her clothes. She had these crazy hats. She got oversize jackets. I loved everything she wore.”

The difference between Robyn and Rihanna:

When people call me Robyn, my head just flies around because I feel like that person knows me. But Rihanna, that tends to be people’s own [creation]. Robyn is who I am. Rihanna—that’s an idea of who I am.”

To all those going to the Rihanna concert this weekend, have fun! &

the facehunter

Marie Claire magazine in association with SA Fashion Week invited me to an exclusive book launch called the FaceHunter by Yvan Rodic. The event was at the warm and glad book store which is also a coffee shop. The event was very intimate with the Marie Claire team, quite a few fashion bloggers and designers.

Yvan Rodic is a Swiss street style photographer, who has travelled the world and captured street style at fashion and cultural events. He has launched his second book titled A year in the life of the FaceHunter and it features an array of beautiful, unassuming street style images from all over the world. You can order his book from his website and whilst you’re there, you can also check out his street style photography.

kerry washington covers essence mag

Dare I say that Kerry Washington is now that girl that is on the cover of every single magazine. As much as it is a good thing, it mustn’t border on over kill. Kerry is now on the cover of Essence magazine dressed in a gold Rafael Cennamo Couture dress. She talks about girls nights, tweeting habits and Olivia Pope’s style.

idris elba covers GQ mag

Before reading snippets of actor Idris Elba’s interview for GQ magazine, I must admit that I didn’t really know much about his personal life, for me he is just that hot guy. So it was interesting to learn that he once sold drugs and had a son that turned out not to be his. His life sounds like it could be movie itself, I can’t wait to read the rest of the interview.

Idris Elba on formerly selling drugs & working as a doorman to make ends meet:

“Yeah, it was, because I was running with cats. I mean, I was DJ’ing, but I was also pushing bags of weed; I was doing my work. I had to. I know that sounds corny, but this is the truth.” He says he’d sell drugs at Carolines, and meanwhile all these successful guys would come through: D. L. Hughley, Dave Chappelle. “All those black comedians, they knew me as a doorman.”

…on his legacy of playing Stringer Bell on HBO’s The Wire:

“That really is more about the writing of The Wire than it is the performance. You know, Stringer Bell is a great character that was written. I happened to play him, but it could’ve been anybody playing that role.”
You really feel like anybody could’ve played Stringer?
“Listen, I think I brought Stringer to life my way, but The Wire isn’t a classic because of Stringer Bell. The Sopranos was a classic because of Tony Soprano.”

…on finding out he was not the father of a boy he was calling his own:

“You know, the truth is—like, even admitting it, I’ll probably get laughed at for the rest of my life. But it is just tragic, and it happened.” He looks directly at me when he says this. “But I wasn’t knocked out. I stood right the fuck back up, and I ain’t aiming to take another punch in the face ever again. Do you understand what I’m saying? It happened to me. I moved on.”
In a paradoxical way, he says, it was freeing. “I’ve not been an angel in my life, either—do you know what I’m saying? So to a certain extent, what goes around comes around. But for me in the future, I’m about being comfortable. That’s it.”

Which magazine cover is Kerry Washington not on right now? She is currently on the cover of the October issues of Marie Claire magazine South Africa and Elle magazine South Africa. This girl is blazing a hot trail right now with the success of her hit TV Drama, Scandal, which in South Africa we know as The Fixer. I read the article on the Marie Claire magazine and I love how Kerry is embracing her success because of how rare it is for an African-American actress to be playing a lead role in a riveting TV drama. She is choosing to focus more on women’s issues versus race. Once again she barely mentions her marriage still choosing to keep her private life private.

This week Kerry was named PEOPLE magazine’s best dressed woman for 2013. It’s safe to say that Kerry Washington has an amazing year! Below are a few of her looks:
